After his record-breaking Verzuz battle with Jeezy, Gucci Mane is ready for more. The Atlanta heavyweight hopped on Instagram on Sunday evening (Nov. 22) to celebrate the legendary showdown and open the floodgates for his next potential Verzuz opponent.
“I heard our battle @verzuztv broke numbers it was historic we run the culture who y’all want me to battle next???” La Flare wrote.
Over the weekend, Verzuz co-founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland confirmed that Jeezy and Gucci Mane’s battle was the most-viewed showdown in the series’ history, bringing in a total of 9.1 million viewers. The two former foes beat out the previous Verzuz viewership record, which was established by Monica and Brandy.
“WOW. The numbers are officially in, and a huge thanks to all of you who tuned in as we broke our all-time livestream viewership record on Thursday night with the first episode of season two of Verzuz,” Swizz and Timbo wrote on Instagram. “On a minimum level, 9.1 MILLION people watched this epic, legendary showdown between [Jeezy] and [Gucci Mane] (As we saw across the country, there was a new phenomenon of Verzuz viewing parties, so that figure is not including those who gathered in large numbers together.”
There was a good reason for the hefty streaming numbers: the Verzuz marked a reunion between Guwop and Jeezy and the end to their bitter 15-year feud. One notable moment was when Jeezy reacted calmly after Gucci tried to rattle him with the diss track, “Truth.” Rather than retaliate, the “Put On” MC gave a quick speech about the two rappers’ respective legacies.
“I just felt like I wasn’t gonna lose my cool; I wasn’t gonna let anyone, including myself, drag me back 20 years,” Jeezy said on Big Boy’s Neighborhood radio show after the battle. “…That would have been an L for me to walk out of there and be like, ‘Yo, I just really lost my composure out in the world because somebody was playing with me like we in the sixth grade.’”
While Jeezy is feeling satisfied after the Verzuz, Gucci is clearly ready to get back in the ring. Who would you like to see him battle next? Check out his post below.
