While final numbers have yet to be reported, thousands of Donald Trump supporters turned out in Washington, D.C. on Saturday (Nov. 14) for a protest that was dubbed as the “Million MAGA March.” The pro-Trump protesters gathered in Freedom Plaza to back the president’s unsubstantiated claims that there was voter fraud in the United States’ Presidential Election that took place on Nov. 3, and that he had won over Joe Biden.
While no exact number of protesters has been reported yet, the White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany falsely boasted on Twitter saying that the event brought out “more than one million” supporters.
“AMAZING! More than one MILLION marchers for President @realDonaldTrump descend on the swamp in support. Best base in political history — we LOVE you guys!!! ❤️🇺🇸,” she tweeted, along with images from the march.
The event was supported by Trump, who drove through the crowd in his motorcade on Saturday morning on his way to the golf course. He flashed a thumbs up at the protesters who caught a glimpse of the president, while carrying their Trump 2020 signs and posters.
Ahead of the march on Friday (Nov. 13), Trump hinted that he might be making an appearance at the event. “Heartwarming to see all of the tremendous support out there, especially the organic Rallies that are springing up all over the Country, including a big one on Saturday in D.C. I may even try to stop by and say hello,” he wrote. “This Election was Rigged, from Dominion all the way up & down!”
The president took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to say that the media was underreporting the number of attendees that were present at the march. “.@FoxNews and the Fake News Networks aren’t showing these massive gatherings. Instead they have their reporters standing in almost empty streets. We now have SUPPRESSION BY THE PRESS. MAGA!” he wrote.
He shared videos from the gatherings on Twitter adding, “Hundreds of thousands of people showing their support in D.C. They will not stand for a Rigged and Corrupt Election!” Trump also tweeted: “People are not going to stand for having this Election stolen from them by a privately owned Radical Left company, Dominion, and many other reasons!”
”The Million MAGA March” was set to start at the Supreme Court and end at Freedom Plaza, and far-right groups like the Proud Boys said they would be attending on social media. “The Million Maga March will be the greatest Trump rally in history,” the Million March Maga group tweeted Saturday. “We demand a transparent election process, free of fraudulent ballots.”
Biden has so far garnered a record-breaking 78 million votes compared to Trump’s more than 72 million. The former vice president is said to be at 306 electoral votes, compared to Trump’s 232, after the Biden-Harris ticket reportedly won in Georgia.
