President Donald Trump has called for a halt to stimulus package negotiations until after Election Day.

On Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 6), Trump sent out a series of tweets detailing his plans to wait until after the election to continue discussions about sending out stimulus packages to the American citizens. “Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19,” he tweeted. “We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith. I am rejecting their request, and looking to the future of our Country.”

He continued, “I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business.”

Trump says he wants U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to focus more on approving the new Supreme Court replacement. “I have asked Mitch McConnell not to delay, but to instead focus full time on approving my outstanding nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett,” he tweeted.

The president concluded his tweets by bragging about how well he thinks the economy is doing. “Our Economy is doing very well,” he wrote. “The Stock Market is at record levels, JOBS and unemployment also coming back in record numbers. We are leading the World in Economic Recovery, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”

The talks to stop stimulus package from going to millions of Americans comes at a time where people need it the most. Since the pandemic began, Congress only passed a $2.2 trillion stimulus. For many Americans, those funds are long gone and people are continuing to lose their businesses and means of employment as COVID-19 continues to spread. Many of the country’s citizens are in need of more funds.
