Offset was detained on Saturday (Oct. 24) in Beverly Hills after a run-in with a group of Trump supporters. The rapper was on Instagram Live during the incident after police officers pulled him over while a crowd of fans surrounded his car, and the officers demanded him to get out of the vehicle. Offset was detained, put in handcuffs but was quickly released.
The rapper’s spokesperson shared a statement with REVOLT about the incident on Saturday. “Artist and Philanthropist Offset was detained by the Beverly Hills Police Department following an attack by aggressive Trump supporters,” the statement read. “He was released shortly thereafter. Offset thanks his fans for their support and wishes everyone peace and safety during these trying times. He encourages everyone to get out and vote because nothing changes if nothing changes.”
The Migos member streamed the encounter on Instagram while thousands of his fans watched. Fans captured the moment where Offset was approached by police officers while he was inside his car and shared it on social media. The video shows the moment the cops demanded that he step out of the car, and Offset refused saying he wouldn’t be removing his hands from his steering wheel for his own safety because according to the rapper, the cops had their guns drawn.
“You got guns out. I’m not going to move my hands from my steering wheel,” he says in the clip. “You know who I am? I’m Offset from the Migos. They are fans, that’s why they are following me, bro.”
The police officers tell the rapper that they are detaining him because they were called by someone who claimed they were waving guns at people on street. Offset then claims someone from the Trump caravan actually hit his car with a flag.
“That has nothing to do with why we’re here. We were told that you guys were waving guns at people,” one police officer says. “I need you to turn your car off.” Another officer then steps in and opens Offset’s car door to get him out.
“That’s not legal. You can’t just open my door, that’s illegal,” the rapper says. “I’m going to sue the sh-t out of y’all, you don’t know who I am?”
The rapper was taken out of his car, handcuffed and questioned but was released quickly thereafter. The Beverly Hills Police Department told TMZ that they arrested Cardi B’s cousin, Marcelo Almanzar, for possession of a concealed loaded weapon and that the rapper is concerned about her cousin.
Earlier in the day, Cardi shared videos of them driving through the Trump caravan and she said how scared she was to see the big pickup trucks and people walking around with fake guns in support of the president. We will share more details on the incident as they become available.
