As if launching cannabis brand Monogram wasn’t enough, JAY-Z curated a playlist to go along with the announcement of his new company. The rapper selected the perfect selection of songs for his fans and shared them on a playlist on TIDAL on Friday (Oct. 23) to coincide with the release of the new brand.
The playlist titled “Monogram: Sounds From the Grow Room” is now available on the streaming platform and it has tracks from artists the music mogul handpicked to be featured. It includes a series of songs for marijuana smokers to enjoy from artists like Outkast, Dr. Dre, Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Cypress Hill, Bob Dylan, D’Angelo, The Beatles and more.
Most of the songs featured on the 23-track playlist go along with the cannabis theme including Scarface’s “Mary Jane,” Peter Tosh’s “Legalize It” and Rihanna’s “James Joint.” Others include Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It” and Amy Winehouse’s “Addicted.”
JAY-Z announced the start of his first cannabis brand on Friday, unveiling the brand’s new website and Instagram account. Monogram is part of the Grammy winner’s partnership with Caliva, a California-based cannabis company he teamed up with in 2019. He was named Caliva’s Chief Brand Strategist and it was announced that his focus would be on marijuana-related social justice issues he cares about like prison reform, and plans on helping former prisoners get into the cannabis industry.
“Anything I do, I want to do correctly and at the highest level,” the businessman said in a statement last year. “With all the potential in the cannabis industry, Caliva’s expertise and ethos make them the best partners for this endeavour. We want to create something amazing, have fun in the process, do good and bring people along the way.”
