Lenny Kravitz recently revealed that he spoke to Swizz Beatz about possibly partaking in a Verzuz battle.
The “I Belong To You” singer shared the news during a virtual interview with Andy Cohen on the “Watch What Happens Live After Show.” Cohen asked the singer had he seen the recent Verzuz battle between Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle.
“I absolutely watched that,” Kravitz said. “It was amazing. It’s hard to put words to that. To see those two legendary, beautiful, strong, talented Black women up there — still shining in their prime — was monumental. And I’ve had the blessing of working with both of them in the studio recording and writing for them, and producing for them. It showed everybody who is who and who has what. It was major.”
Cohen then asked Kravitz if he would ever participate in the popular series. He replied, “I was talking to Swizz about it. I think it would be interesting. I don’t know who with, but they’re thinking about it.”
Swizz Beatz recently confirmed that the Verzuz series would be returning for a second season. On Tuesday (Oct. 13), he invited fans to share who they wanted to see in the next season. “Ohhh ohhhhh who you want to see in season 2? @verzuztv stay tuned all the way in,” he captioned the post.
The first season of Verzuz gave us legendary matchups between artists such as Brandy and Monica, DMX and Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss and Fabolous, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, 2 Chainz and Rick Ross, 112 and Jagged Edge, Ne-Yo and Johntá Austin and many more.
Season one ended with the epic battle between Knight and LaBelle. The two musical legends broke their own personal streaming records in the days following the matchup. Their U.S. streaming totals more than doubled after their Sep. 13 Verzuz took place, making it the biggest streaming week of their careers.
