Colin Kaepernick has spoken out on the killing of Qassem Soleimani, the Iranian major general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who was recently killed in a President Donald Trump-ordered attack. Kaepernick referred to the attack as “American imperialism.”
“There is nothing new about American terrorist attacks against Black and Brown people for the expansion of American imperialism,” the former 49ers quarterback tweeted.
He continued, “America has always sanctioned and besieged Black and Brown bodies both at home and abroad. America militarism is the weapon wielded by American imperialism, to enforce its policing and plundering of the non white world.”
President Trump has addressed the killing, saying that it was overdue. He wrote, “General Qassem Soleimani has killed or badly wounded thousands of Americans over an extended period of time, and was plotting to kill many more…but got caught! He was directly and indirectly responsible for the death of millions of people, including the recent large number of PROTESTERS killed in Iran itself. While Iran will never be able to properly admit it, Soleimani was both hated and feared within the country. They are not nearly as saddened as the leaders will let the outside world believe. He should have been taken out many years ago!”
Most recently, the president warned Iran not to retaliate on any Americans or American assets. Trump tweeted, “Iran has been nothing but problems for many years. Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!”
Following the news of the killing of Soleimani, Black Twitter went meme-crazy about what could be a World War III.
