Back in September, Wale tweeted his frustrations with not be chosen to perform at NPR’s “Tiny Desk,” although the show was based out of a location only a few minutes away from him. He tweeted, “Still never done tiny desk .. and it’s like 20 min away.” That has all changed, as the The Album About Nothing rapper was finally given the chance to bless the “Tiny Desk” stage.
The Washington D.C. native shared the news from his Twitter account today (Jan. 21). He tweeted, “And finally we have a Tiny Desk … 🎈🖼🎈🖼🎈🖼” along with a clip of him performing his hit song “Sue Me.”
Before he hit the stage, Wale talked about how he wish he had more time to get his set together for the show.
“I was talking to J. Cole about me doing this,” said Wale as he traveled on the elevator up to the “Tiny Desk” set. “He told me to just do my thing, but I wish I had more time to work this set out.”
Wale took his fans on a ride as he performed 30 minutes of his hits from the past decade. According to NPR, he performed fan favorites like “On Chill,” “LoveHate Thing,” “Lotus Flower Bomb,” and the aforementioned “Sue Me.” He showed love to his hometown’s go-go sound by performing “Sexy Lady” with his touring band, Tre And The Ppl, formerly known as UCB.
In 2011, Wale joined Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group alongside Philly rapper, Meek Mill. His hit song “Lotus Flower Bomb” earned him a 2013 Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song. His 2019 album Wow…That’s Crazy debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200.
Wale currently has #WaleTinyDesk trending worldwide. He tweeted, “If y’all can type #WaleTinydesk .. that’d be fantastic ok bye” as he shared another clip of his performance.
