Summer Walker is showing thanks to her fans for changing her life within a year.
She uploaded a video of herself showing her fans how much she appreciates them and thanking them for supporting her. She said she will slow down a lot this year, but she hopes that her fans will continue to support her.
She wrote, “Beyond Blessed. My whole life changed in a year & a half , like literally year ago I was scrubbing toilets and stripping. I’m now damn near financially free with a paid off house & car with out a care in the world, and it’s all cause of y’all so thank you 🙏🏽.”
It’s been a very successful year for Walker musically. Her debut album Over It broke Beyonce’s Lemonade streaming record and landed her the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It also became the second-most streamed album by any R&B artist ever, following just behind The Weeknd’s Starboy.
While things were going well for Walker on the charts, she continued to suffer from social anxiety and cancelled some of her tour dates.
“Hey y’all as you know, I have been very open about my struggle with social anxiety,” she wrote on Twitter. “I want to continue to be healthy and to make music for y’all, so I have decided to cut down some of the dates on the tour. I’m grateful for every single one of you. I hope that you understand.”
Walker’s troubles with fans continued as she would reportedly show up late to performances and club appearances. Videos surfaced of Walker being booed at multiple venues. Fans also accused the singer of being standoffish during meet and greets.
She took to Instagram to explain to her fans why she needs personal space at her meet and greets. “I just want to say to all the fans who purchase meet & greets I really APPRECIATE y’all taking the extra time to meet me and share your stories. I tell everyone individually ‘thank you’, I spread love, we laugh & I give genuine compliments. now for those who’re upset b/c I don’t give hugs idk what to tell you…I’m an empath, and that transference of energy from that many people each day would literally KILL me. … So I ask you please respect my space in those moments.”
