2 Chainz went above and beyond this year. Earlier this week, the Atlanta native hosted his seventh annual TRU 2 Hoops Basketball Tournament, in partnership with his TRU Foundation. On Monday (Dec. 23), Atlanta youngsters were invited to come out to North Clayton High School, 2 Chainz’ alma mater, for an age-bracketed basketball tournament.
“Thank you Lord for another successful #TRU2HOOPS,” Tity Boi wrote on Instagram. “This is my 7th year having it at my alma matter.”
Although the tournament is a recurring event, 2 Chainz flexed even more generosity this year by purchasing 100 pairs of shoes for participants.
“Couldn’t get any sponsors this time so we went out and bought a 100 pair of shoes for the kids yesterday who played,” he shared on Instagram, along with a photo of Nike, Adidas and Under Armour shoe boxes.
Last year, 2 Chainz brought in his personal chef to provide tournament participants and their families with a healthy meal and supplied the kids with free TRU 2 Hoops uniforms.
“It’s about giving back to the kids,” he previously told 11 Alive, an Atlanta NBC-affiliate station. “We have young men here from ages 10 through 13 and I like to come out here personally—work out with them, bring some of my personal athlete friends out here, some of my celebrity influence, bring them out here and mentor the kids.”
The tournament also included a mini-clinic run by guest NBA and NCAA players.
2 Chainz is one of several hip hop artists who have found ways to give back this season. Cardi B recently spent $5,000 on toys for a children’s charity. Kodak Black also got into the giving spirit, donating thousands in toys and funds to the Paradise Day Care Center in Broward County, FL, Fort Lauderdale’s Downtown Jewish Center Chabad and a Florida family.
