It’s no secret that SZA is currently cooking up her sophomore album, the follow-up to 2017’s Ctrl.
“This next album is even more of me being less afraid,” she said during an interview with Kerwin Frost, adding that the project will be here “soon as f**k.”
SZA also name-dropped Justin Timberlake, BROCKHAMPTON, Post Malone and Jack Antonoff as possible collaborators, disclosing that she’s hit the studio with each of them.
“Before I was like, ‘What the f*ck am I doing in the studio with Justin Timberlake right now? This is crazy,’” she told Frost. “But when I heard his music and we started singing together… It’s like, ‘Oh, we speak the same language. The same frequency.’ I understood where he was going before he could finish a run.”
Now, SZA has added another name to the potential list of album contributors: Megan Thee Stallion. The Houston Hottie was alluded to during a Twitter exchange between SZA and a fan.
“I want sza x megan,” one fan tweeted on Sunday (Dec. 22).
“Now das already cut n recorded,” SZA replied on Monday (Dec. 23).
The tweets arrived after another fan asked for a Normani collaboration, to which SZA replied, “Lmao I’m zown she know dat!!!”
In other SZA news, the Top Dawg Entertainment songstress recently showed off some new ink.
On Sunday (Dec. 22), SZA took to Instagram to reveal a new back tattoo, which holds a special meaning.
“Most of these symbols predate religion,” she explained. “Heart chakra symbol is def in the center, lotus on the bottom (grows from mud and is constantly unfolding and purifying as we all are), whole circle represents the one the infinite, clockwise spiral is the oldest known symbol n represents constant flow n transformation, bottom left is African AHODEN > ENERGY Symbol of Energy, Strength.”
“With energy and strength, you can make it through any situation in life,” she continued. “Bottom right is African as well as ADINKRAHENE> a chief symbol of creativity and leadership, top is the seed of life from which all things sprout. The two large triangles in both direction forming the star represent the whole and gods protection from all directions.”
SZA’s debut album, Ctrl, featured collaborations with Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy and Isaiah Rashad. This year, she contributed to DJ Khaled’s latest album, Father of Asahd, with “Just Us.”
