On Wednesday (Nov. 20), Kodak Black’s attorneys filed a notice of appeal for his 46-month prison sentence, which he was handed last week (Nov. 13). The rapper pleaded guilty on federal weapons charges after being arrested for falsifying documents to buy several handguns.

According to Complex, one of Kodak’s lawyers, Fred Haddad, ordered a transcript of Kodak’s sentencing hearing and submitted this statement: “Notice is hereby given that the Defendant, Bill K. Kapri, takes and enters this, his Notice of Appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit to review the Orders, Judgment and Sentence entered on November 13, 2019.”

The public information officer of the Southern District of Florida’s U.S. Attorney’s Office disclosed to Complex that the government has been given no further information on Kodak’s appeal.

According to legal documents obtained by the outlet, the rapper also previously filed a motion to be sentenced to a facility that offers the Residential Drug Abuse Program, a voluntary program for prisoners with a history of substance abuse. The Assistant United States Attorney Bruce Brown reportedly claimed that Kodak would benefit from this program during his sentencing last week.

The news arrives after TMZ reported that the 22-year-old will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree while he’s in prison.

Despite appealing his current sentence, Kodak could face more time, as he was recently hit with two new counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The Miami Herald previously reported that the rapper is considered a “habitual violent offender,” which means that the charges each carry a maximum sentence of 30 years. The outlet further reported that the charges stem from two separate incidents—one for a gun that Kodak purchased back in January and the second from his arrest in May.

Besides the gun charges, Kodak is still embroiled in a criminal sexual conduct case stemming from a South Carolina arrest. No hearings for the ongoing case have been scheduled yet.
