T.I. will reportedly be Jada Pinkett Smith’s next guest on her popular “Red Table Talk” Facebook Watch series. Tip landed himself in a large controversy earlier this month when he revealed on the “Ladies Like Us” podcast that he regularly accompanies his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, to the gynecologist for annual hymen, or virginity, checks. Smith and T.I. will discuss the hot-button issue on her upcoming episode on Monday (Nov. 25).
While walking the red carpet at a screening for her upcoming film, Hala, in Hollywood on Monday (Nov. 18), Smith revealed her plans for the episode to Entertainment Tonight.
“My next big guest is Tip. T.I. is coming to the table. Yes indeed,” she said. “And of course, he’s going to address the controversy that has been swirling.”
The “Ladies Like Us” podcast episode has since been deleted and podcast co-hosts Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham subsequently apologized for their response to Tip during the show. The Atlanta rap mogul, however, has yet to speak publicly about the incident at all and his appearance on “Red Table Talk” will mark his first official comment.
“We just shot that [episode] today,” Smith continued. “And then he and [his wife] Tiny sit down and talk about how they survived, in regards to their marriage. So that will be next Monday.”
In the wake of the backlash, Deyjah has taken a break from social media, unfollowing her father’s Instagram account and deleting her accounts for the time being.
While on the red carpet, Smith also discussed Hala, which she served as an executive producer. The film tells the story of a Pakistani-American teenager as she navigates balancing her faith, family and personal identity.
“I feel like it’s a very universal story about a young woman coming of age,” Smith said. “I think that as women we all understand the struggles just trying to self-actualize, whether it’s trying to individualize ourselves from our mother’s identity or what we think our fathers want us to be, or cultures, society just trying to find our way and find our own self.”
Previous episodes of “Red Table Talk” have been available to watch on the show’s Facebook page.
