Nicki Minaj is being honored by Billboard.
According to Vibe, Nicki will be the recipient of the Game Changers Award for her impact on the music industry at Billboard’s 14th Annual Women in Music event. The music-driven company will be acknowledging the Queens rapper as one of the first to intertwine hip hop and pop, while headlining tours, and influencing the new generation of women rappers.
Hannah Karp, Billboard’s Editorial Director said in a press release, “Billboard’s Women in Music is an annual opportunity for us to celebrate influential women from across the industry who are impacting both business and culture. We’re thrilled to highlight another diverse group of women this year who’ve pushed limits, broken boundaries and defined the decade.”
Other artists and music industry executives will be honored as well, such as Roc Nation’s COO Desiree Perez, who will receive the 2019 Executive of the Year Award. The event is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on Dec. 12.
Over the years, Nicki’s list of accolades have continued to grow. In fact, she has become the first woman to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart one hundred times over the course of her career.
In other news, music seems to run in Nicki’s family, as her mother, Carol Maraj, has released a gospel single. During an interview with PEOPLE Now, Maraj spoke on the record and said, “‘What Makes You’ is all about building self-esteem, loving oneself, and loving the uniqueness of you. You can’t be anyone else. Your flaws make you. That’s what I want people to understand [about] that song.”
She continued, “You can be singing it to God. You can be singing it to anyone. It’s an all-around love song slash pop, but you can take this song to mean anything you want it to mean. ‘You love me like no one else’: I think about the Lord when I sing that song.”
