Missy Elliott is throwing it back for her Halloween costume this year. The legendary MC took to Instagram to challenge her followers in a guessing-game that proves she is truly ageless.
For her Halloween costume, Elliott recreated the cover art from her debut Supa Dupa Fly album, which was released in 1997. Elliott posted side-by-side images of her costume and the LP’s original artwork to see if fans could guess which image was more recent.
“This Halloween I decided to RECREATE my 1st album cover from 22 YEARS AGO one of these pictures I took ONLY 3 DAYS AGO the other was 22 YEARS AGO CAN YALL TELL THE DIFFERENCE??,” the “Lose It” rapper wrote.
Executive-produced by Timbaland, the 17-track debut effort included some of Elliott’s most memorable hits, like “Sock It 2 Me” featuring Da Brat, “Beep My 911,” with 702 and the Aaliyah-assisted “Best Friends.”
Elliott looks so similar in both of the photos, despite the 22-year gap, that even her own mother had trouble telling which photo was newer.
“Lol my mom couldn’t even tell but if you look closely you can see the difference but I am more happy that my outfit is still in tack that outfit 22 year old leather,” Elliott wrote on Twitter.
Fans will remember that Misdemeanor dressed up as herself last Halloween, too. Elliott recreated her look from “The Rain” music video, although she wasn’t able to wear the exact outfit from the clip.
This year, Elliott released her five-track Iconology EP and teamed up with Lizzo on “Tempo.” The hip hop pioneer was also honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.
