Over the weekend, in celebration of the late Nipsey Hussle’s birthday, fellow artist and friend BJ The Chicago Kid, released a cover of the beloved entertainer’s ”Double Up” from his GRAMMY-nominated album, Victory Lap. On the new cover, BJ the Chicago Kid pays tribute to Nip’s lyrics while adding his own flair:
Double up, three or four times I ain’t tellin’ no lies/ I just run it up, never let a hard time humble us, double up, I ain’t tellin’ no lies, I just, I ain’t tellin’ no lies, I just/ 5, 4, 3-2 let’s talk, I got to you, that money, my dreams, come true/ My life, in diamonds, who knew, who knew, who knew
Turn 7 to a 14, 14 to a whole thing/ Lord knows it’s a cold game, switched up on you hoes mayne/ Big body take both lanes
The touching tribute was produced by Naz and The Ghoulie$. BJ had the following to say when it came to honoring his close friend, “I wanted to creatively honor my friend who not just uplifted so many with his music, but was an incredible man who meant the world to the industry as a whole. This is my way of working to continue his legacy through music.”
BJ The Chicago Kid announced he would be kicking off his “BJ Wednesdays” a few weeks ago, and since then he has kept his promise by consistently dropping off new music each Hump Day for fans to enjoy in the middle of the week. He then wound up packaging all the tracks into a well-rounded EP and titled it 4AM that he dropped in full at the top of August.
