Though we’ve come a long way from how things used to be 400+ years ago, there are still occurrences where we are reminded that we still have a lot of work to do to get to where we need to be in this thing we call life. One thing that we’re all excited for though, is President Joe Biden signing off on the bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday — which is a nice first step into the right direction. Some would say that it should have been recognized as a national holiday a long time ago, but as the saying goes — better late than never.
To help celebrate the holiday, Chloe Bailey, Yara Shahidi, Cordae and a slew of others gather to bring forth the Music For The Movement Vol. 3 — Liberated EP.
Music For The Movement Vol. 3 – Liberated explores embracing Black authenticity as a whole. It’s centered on Black America becoming the author of its own story and adopting an unapologetic Black pride. Volume 3 shifts its focus away from the long-suffered trauma to celebrate in the strengths that make the Black community unique, original and greatly resilient. Moreover, it is a celebration of Black art, style, beauty, creativity and success as a culture and a people.
As a solid gesture for the people, rapper Cordae has agreed to donate all of his earnings from this EP to scholarship funds at HBCUs. The Disney Dreamers Academy and ESPN’s The Undefeated also agreed to match his donations.
“So many people need the money more than I do. I feel as though when you’re in such a blessed position, it’s important to pay that forward to be a blessing to others. It’s especially important to me to invest in our youth and the future — Young people are the future of our society and the world, so we must do all we can to ensure they are properly positioned to succeed. If I can spark the brain of a few future world leaders and geniuses, I’ll die a happy man.”
