This past weekend, Miguel unveiled the fourth installment of his Art Dealer Chic series, which sees four genre-bending songs from the veteran artist — including the previously released cut “Funeral.” Following that project’s release, Miguel liberated a new video for the closing track “So I Lie,” a self-produced offering that centers on self-reflection, personal fears, and a “new beginning” — something that he explained in incredible detail on social media:

“The song itself was not comfortable to write and finding the courage to release it was a process. Years even. … I’m determined to connect [with] you deeper, and [with] that in mind this song is almost the perfect reintroduction. To give you insight into the walls I build out of fear of being torn down. Made fun of. Ignored. (And I have been all of those things. Publicly. Even by people I admire)…”

The self-directed clip for “So I Lie” begins with Miguel storming out of his home and embarking on a motorcycle ride. That journey in interspersed with shots of a distorted Miguel, behind the scenes photos, presumed therapy sessions, and what may or may not be confirmation that he and wife Nazanin Mandi now have a child together. It all ends with Miguel looking quite peaceful by the ocean at sunset.

Miguel’s latest official LP, War & Leisure, was released back in 2017, featuring 12 tracks and contributions from Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Kali Uchis, J. Cole, and Salaam Remi. The critically acclaimed effort was a top ten commercial success on the Billboard 200, eventually earning Miguel a Gold plaque. Two years later, he would release Te Lo Dije, an EP filled with Spanish-language versions of standout cuts from War & Leisure. Hopefully, he’s gearing up to release a new full-length body of work soon.
