Last week, AJ Tracey celebrated his 27th revolution around the Sun. He also used his special day to unveil a new single titled “Anxious,” a Remedee-produced cut that sees the West London star flexing his wealth and success while reflecting on his life as a whole:
“If you get my number, then don’t hit me on no dumb shit, we on demon time, my little hitters make the pump click, I been anxious lately, let me hit two on my blunt quick, I leave Novikov and all these yatties wanna come with/
I run this London town, got smoke, we double down, and we ain’t runnin’ into trouble, we bring trouble ‘round, I smash the radio, my ragers underground, I keep my shooters cool and hold my mother down/”
“Anxious” also sees a cinematic visual courtesy of KC Locke and Tracey himself, which begins with him borrowing a page from Batman and standing on a rooftop overlooking the very city he claims rule over. The rest of the clip is a lesson in lavish living, with shots of Tracey riding in a Rolls Royce, making big jewelry and watch purchases, and enjoying a night of fine dining with his crew.
“Anxious” follows last November’s EP Secure the Bag! 2, a sequel to 2017’s Secure the Bag! that saw nine high quality tracks with a few assists from slowthai, Swoosh God, and Sloan Evans. In 2019, he released his self-titled LP, which currently stands as his only one to date. Featuring contributions from the likes of Giggs, Jay Critch, and Not3s, AJ Tracey landed at number three on the UK Albums chart and subsequently scored the young talent a Gold certification. Hopefully, he’s preparing to deliver a sophomore follow-up sooner than later.
