It’s been a few years since RAY BLK released her Island Records debut EP Empress, an eight-track body of work featuring production from Fred again.., Joshua Grant, Fraser T. Smith, OAK, Kztheproducer, and more. In that same time frame, the South London star dropped off loose cuts like “In My Bed,” “Action” with Chip, and “Lovesick” — all of which help to build momentum toward an official full-length release.
This past weekend, RAY BLK adds to that with “Games,” which features assistance from Giggs and sees the collaborators speaking to the rules of engagement — or lack thereof — in regards to relationships:
“Boys will be boys yeah they all wanna fuck, talking is cheap they start gassin you up, don’t trust the game baby don’t fall in love, girl back it up, I’m back in the cut, I pull up sideways, runnin up on your driveway, runnin up on your side babes…/”
“Games” also comes with a dope, retro-themed visual courtesy of Nathan James Tettey. The colorful clip keeps things pretty simple, with both RAY BLK enjoying drinks with friends at a gathering, while Giggs makes moves toward a particular love interest. Viewers are then treated to a new single preview at the end, which sees RAY BLK singing about having “issues” and being difficult to love.
In addition to her own releases, RAY BLK could also be heard providing some show-stealing verses on songs like Nines’ “Rubber Bands,” RAYE’s “Crew,” Dutchavelli’s “Skr On Em,” and Rudimental’s “Scared Of Love.” Meanwhile, last year saw Giggs surprising his fans with the 16-track mixtape Now Or Never, a well-received effort that saw a slew of assists from the likes of KYZE, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Tiny Boost, Jorja Smith, Dave, and Emeli Sandé.
