It looks like Lil Nas X is doing the slow rollout towards his official debut album. Late last year, he unveiled the single “Holiday,” his first new offering since his 7 EP was released in 2019. Fast forward to today, and he continues that momentum with “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name), a Latin-styled track that sees him apparently falling for an individual living the “bad boy” persona:
You don’t even have to try, you’re cute enough to fuck with me tonight, lookin’ at the table, all I see is weed and white, baby, you livin’ the life, but nigga, you ain’t livin’ right…/”
The existence of “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” was first learned via a video chat between Lil Nas X and Rihanna, who sung praises to the beaming Georgian star:
“I heard a clip of your new song the other day. Banging … I’m so glad because you came so strong in the beginning. That gets tricky, like, where do you go next? But you’re killing it, I’m happy for you.”
Shortly after, Lil Nas X — who’s first name is actually Montero — teased a snippet of the track on social media. Then, just last month, he appeared in a Logitech advertisement during Super Bowl LV with the infectious cut playing in the background.
Unless you’ve been living on another planet, then you’re more than aware of Lil Nas X’s breakout single “Old Town Road,” a 2018 release that subsequently added on Billy Ray Cyrus as a feature. The country/hip-hop hybrid has since become one of the biggest of all time, top charts and going diamond in several countries around the world. It will be interesting to see how he continues to break music barriers moving forward.
If anything, fans will certainly get a taste of how with “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” — press play on the visual for the track below.
