As one of the earlier breakout producers from Atlanta’s trap movement, it’s pretty amazing to see Sonny Digital continue to create hit records for his peers. In addition to cooking classics behind the boards, Digital has also continued to evolve as an artist in his own right — tracks like “Work,” “That’s It” with Swae Lee, and “I Got” with $teven Cannon and Lil Xan show just how versatile he is on either side of the booth.
This month, Sonny Digital drops off a new self-produced number titled “Dance,” which sees him stepping outside of the usual hip hop sound for a more retro-pop number that’s guaranteed to get feet moving on the dance floor — whenever the world decides to safety reopen:
“The party just begun, under sunlight, let’s have some fun, I seen the stars and I seen the moon, been around the universe looking for you, ’cause I want to groove, ’cause I want to groove, if it’s a limit, then we gon’ go, but it ain’t no limit, to where I can go…/”
Throughout his career, Sonny Digital has crafted memorable cuts for Beyoncé, 21 Savage, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, Kanye West, and many more. More recently, his special touch can be found on tracks like Don Toliver’s “After Party,” Pap Chanel and Future’s “Gucci Bucket Hat,” and Jack Harlow’s “Face Of My City.” In a past interview with REVOLT, Digital explained his feelings on not received his full credit in spite of his many achievements — epecially in regards to being a first-mover with a lot of acts:
“Metro [Boomin] and them wasn’t on. Nobody knew Metro, nobody knew [Young Thug],” Sonny said. “Come on bro, who y’all think y’all know? Nobody knew Cam Kirk.”
