It’s been a couple of years since Lucky Daye released his debut LP Painted, a masterful body of work that earned the New Orleans crooner a multiple Grammy nominations for both the album and standout cuts “Roll Some Mo” and “Real Games.” He later blessed the world with a deluxe version of the project that contained an additional six tracks with features from Babyface, Victoria Money, Chronixx, and MediSun.
Today, Lucky Daye reveals the soulful offering “On Read,” which features assistance from London singer Tiana Major9 and sees the two dealing with the anxieties of an unanswered text to a love interest:
“I can’t take it, ’cause you left me on read, I’ve been waiting all day, got me all in my head, everything that wе said, can we just take our timе? And you can have some of mine, but you ain’t made up your mind, you keep me waiting, you keep me waiting all night…/”
A rising star in her own right, 2020 saw Tiana Major9 releasing the well-received EP At Sixes And Sevens, a nine-track offering that also contained “Collide,” her collaboration with EARTHGANG that also appeared on Queen & Slim: The Soundtrack. She also contributed to last November’s A Motown Holiday with “Silent Night.”
In an interview with REVOLT’s “The Round Up,” Tiana Major9 spoke on the significance of the number nine within her moniker:
“So, Major9 comes from the chords in music, it’s like a chord I use a lot in my music. My first EP was called Rehearsal @ NINE, it was just like a play on the word nine, ‘cause a lot of people … they forget the nine, they call me Tiana Major all the time.”
