Currently, the world is still reeling from the effects of COVID-19 and the inability to truly live our lives like we used to. In Washington D.C. specifically, it’s hard not to forget about being able to enjoy late nights around the city (or even within one of the many bustling suburbs that surround it), whether it be with a group of friends or a particular love interest. Enter rising D.C. star Lord Francis, who has liberated a new single titled “U Street” — a melodic love story of sorts that looks to recreate the vibe of its uptown namesake:

“Late night, callin’, U Street, ballin’, dogs dem, all in, gyals dem, fall in line/”

Prior to the dreamy, Eros-produced cut, Lord Francis blessed the world with his 2019 EP Nocturnal, which boasted six tracks and — much like “U Street” — brought feelings of after hours debauchery somewhat akin to music from peers like PARTYNEXTDOOR and The Weeknd. Take, for example, the lyrics from the EP’s closing cut “Long Day”:

“Pass the keys, I’m gon’ drive the V, you gon’ hit the streets, you gon’ slide wit’ me, you got time for me, girl that’s fine wit’ me, sip this wine wit’ me, do these lines wit’ me…/”

Aside from other loose cuts like the dark, brooding “Champagne Waup,” little more is yet to be seen from Lord Francis, save for rare features on tracks like close collaborator Beau Young Prince’s “Diamonds Dancing,” taken from the Def Jam-signed artist’s 2018 body of work Groovy Land. Currently, Lord Francis said to be working on his own forthcoming body of work, titled 2morrow Land.
