When it comes to grime, Novelist is one of its main stars and a big part of why the culture remains alive. For much of the past decade, he’s been dropping infectious hard-hitting — and often self-produced — cuts of his own, and has delivered show-stealing bars alongside the likes of Skepta, Baauer, Chase & Status, and Kid D.
In addition to the presidential inauguration taking place in the United States, today (January 20) also marks Novelist’s 24th birthday. In celebration of, fans are able to enjoy a new cut from the South London star for “Calm,” a self-produced effort that sees him affirming his faith instead of worrying about the worldly issues that confront us all:
“Got no problems, got no drama, put trust in Jesus, I don’t believe in karma, as long as I live, I’m quick, I’ll see no harm, relax then calm, I know that I’m gonna last… can’t get shaken, can’t get moved…/”
The dark, brooding visual comes courtesy of Ehsan and — according to the director — was actually filmed some time ago, possibly prior to when COVID-19 brought the world to a halt. Viewers can see Novelist walking around an estate, unfazed by the evils that are taking place around him. The clip even ends with him bursting into flames à la the Human Torch, as a camera crew looks on in amazement.
Last year, Novelist blessed the masses with a slew of independently released EPs, including Inferno, Heat (with Shailan), Rain Fire, and Quantum Leap. He also released notable singles like “Pay What Is Owed,” “Stay With Me,” and “Dun Know (Part 1).”
Fans can press play on Novelist’s “Calm” video below. Hopefully, he’s continue to deliver high-level bodies of work — and perhaps a proper follow-up to 2018’s Novelist Guy — before year’s end.
