Dave East continues to deliver dope tunes for his fans to enjoy. Following “No Lucc (East Mix)” earlier this month, the Harlem emcee returns with a fresh short film of sorts for “Child Of The Ghetto,” a flip of G. Dep’s single of the same name that sees direction from Crowned YB alongside DaRealJewels and StreetHeat. Viewers can see Dave East in different street locations with his crew and hip hop legend AZ, while other portions of the clip reveal loose reenactments of the classic 90’s film Juice — Khalil Kain even makes a cameo appearance in reference to his Juice character Raheem Porter.
2020 was a pretty good year for Dave East, who made his first official entry into the new year with the Jim Jones and Juelz Santana collaboration “Pink Eagle.” In addition, he also released the third installment of his well-received Karma series, which saw 15 tracks and additional features from Popcaan, Trey Songz, Trouble, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Young Dolph, Bino Rideaux, Mary J. Blige, and more. He later added on a deluxe version of Karma 3 with eight additional cuts and new assists from G Herbo, Jeezy, Junior Reid, Chris Brown, and DeJ Loaf.
In a recent interview with REVOLT, Crowned YB spoke on how the pandemic changed everything for Dave East and his team, given that live performances and tours quickly became a virtual myth in the western world:
“We had to dedicate our time to the studio and lock in. When things opened up for that short moment, we were able to go to Atlanta and Miami. But, that was very private. A year ago, we were in another country hugging people, but you can’t do that now, which is weird. But, you just have to adapt to it.”
