Fresh off the release of his new Rap N Roll album, Dom Kennedy is riding the momentum by releasing his music video for “Bootleg Cable.” The new album contained a lengthy total of 17 new cuts and features from 24hrs, Casey Veggies, TeeFLii, Niko G4, and Allyn. “Bootleg Cables” was co-produced by Troy Nōka and Dom himself. The video has all the workings of a typical visit to the store, including that guy in the corner trying to sell you CD’s, kids bouncing basketballs, and men shooting dice.
The visual, which was directed by Jason Madison, starts off with an animation made by Calen McCloud of Dom pulling up to a convenience store, but smoothly transitions back into real life as the rapper smoothly strolls the aisles. On his verse, Dom references a classic video he loved to watch as he pays homage to a late NYC legend:
Just a pinky ring on a day I’m subtle. Bootleg Cable watching I was younger. I liked the “Big Poppa” video, that sh*t was jumping. I need to smoke with Lil’ Cease, wanna tell him something. I was sad when Biggie died, LA n****s loved him. Don’t believe the hype, we shall overcome this.
In July Dom Kennedy released Also Known As, his second Half-A-Mil release Hit-Boy. Alongside his own music, the OPM CEO has also provided assists this year on IAMSU!’s “Understand Me,” TeeFLii’s “On A Rainy Day,” Jay 305’s “Do It Big,” and Larry June’s “Orange Juice Wit DOM.” Prior to that was 2017’s Courtesy Of Half-A-Mil, which included 11 tracks and features from 03 Greedo, 24hrs, and Nas.
In an interview with Billboard, Dom spoke about his unshakable confidence:
“Nobody’s going to give me my confidence, so who’s going to take it away? We’re stronger than ever today. We had to go through some trials and tribulations and I had to go through tough times and question my whole motive and system in order to get here, but that’s the beauty of it.”
