Currently, legendary producer Salaam Remi is putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming album Black On Purpose. Last month, fans were able to check out a new visual from the project for “Is It Because I’m Black,” which sees assistance from Black Thought, CeeLo Green, Anthony Hamilton, Stephen Marley, and Syleena Johnson. Now, he delivers another the new single “Black Love,” which features Teedra Moses and D-Nice. The track is the perfect 90s-esque summer cut, which many of us will be able to enjoy while still in quarantine.
In addition to the aforementioned, Black On Purpose is expected to feature additional assistance from Nas, Chronixx, Doug E Fresh, Jennifer Hudson, Busta Rhymes, Bilal, and more. The project will also follow January’s Do It FoR the CulTuRe, Vol. 2, which saw a healthy 25 tracks and features from Terrace Martin, Miguel, Joell Ortiz, Spragga Benz, Bodega Bamz, James Fauntleroy, the late Amy Winehouse, and more.
Speaking to REVOLT for our “Studio Sessions” series, Salaam Remi spoke on his last session with Winehouse, who passed away back in 2011:
“We didn’t really record to much in the last session. Probably the last thing we recorded was ‘Between The Cheats,’ which was on Lioness, a few years before she passed. We started working on what her third album would’ve been. We went to St. Lucia in 2009. In 2010, she was back in London. Then, she passed away in the middle of 2011. Before she passed, she was like, ‘I’m going to write everything. After I write it all, we’ll go in the studio and record.’ That’s what she was doing. When she was writing her last album, she was still going through the divorce with her husband.”
