Back in July, Ty Dolla $ign blessed the world with the big name single “Ego Death,” a collaboration with Kanye West, FKA twigs, and Skrillex, which gave fans a taste of what they can expect on his forthcoming album Dream House. Now, he follows that with a new cut titled “Expensive,” which was first teased back in March during an Instagram Live session. The William Van Zandt, BlueySport, and James Royo-produced single features assistance from Nicki Minaj and speaks to the proud high-maintenance ladies in the world:
“I got a shopping problem, got expensive taste Bustdown Patek, n***a, expensive face, gotta get me icy, if he tryna skate, gotta swipe the Amex if he go on a date/
If we go on a date, he gotta blow on my cake, but don’t hit me if it’s tiny, or else we’ll skate, these studs for my ears, these scarfs for my hairs, latest bags from Chanel and I ain’t tryna wait…/”
In addition to his own drops, Ty Dolla $ign has been rather prolific in regards to his assists — this year alone has seen him contribute to Murda Beatz “Doors Unlocked,” dvsn’s “Dangerous City,” 24hrs’ “Superstar,” Thundercat’s “Fair Chance,” and more. He also added to the very active movement against racism and social justice by liberating the Skrillex, Ant Clemons, Virtual Riot, and Nia Miranda-assisted “You See It.”
In addition to her pregnancy, Nicki Minaj has been providing a wealth of features to her peers as well, with one in particular, Doja Cat’s “Say So (Remix),” making it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. She’s also provided verses for A$AP Ferg’s “Move Ya Hips” and Meghan Trainor’s “Nice To Meet Ya.” The New York veteran also released the loose single “Yikes” back in February, an apparent diss to her ex-boyfriend Meek Mill.
