This August, Aminé will release his sophomore studio LP Limbo, which is led by the singles “Shimmy” and “Riri.” This week, he gifts his fans with another cut from the project titled “Compensating,” which features Young Thug and sees the two collaborators rapping about failed relationships from their past over production from T-Minus:
“And you-and you-and you know why, you’ve been f***in’ with me since I was a small fry, and your ex-man, that’s my lil’ guy/
I know some n***as that’ll kick em to the coast lines, I’m a West Side n***a, we don’t show signs, you got some fake friends, they just toe lines/
Text, I reply, baby, ‘til my phone die, you know he lied if a n***a said he don’t lie, I f***ed up once again, and you know that I’m never too proud to beg/
It’s hard to admit that I’ve made my bed, and you know I’ma always wish you the best, look, b***h, roll inside the Benz, I f***ed up once and I gotcha bent…/”
The track comes with an animated visual that shows the two walking around in matching jumpsuits while carrying a balloon showing the other artist’s face.
Speaking to Pigeons and Planes for their “Trending Topics” series, Aminé spoke on how “Shimmy” came together:
“It wasn’t necessarily like I picked the sample, ‘cause everybody knows that song, it’s like one of the most famous hip hop songs. I personally don’t like sampling songs that everyone knows, unless it’s done justice. As far as the beat goes, I’ve been, like, all over the world working on my album, and I was in Toronto working with [Boi-1da], and he played me that beat, and I was like, ‘Jesus Christ.’”
Fans can press play on “Compensating” and, for those who missed it, “Riri” below.
