Joey Bada$$ blessed his fans on Friday (July 17) at midnight with a brand new three-track project. Fittingly titled The Light Pack, it only features one other dope MC besides the Brooklyn rapper — and that is the one and only Pusha T.
The Virginia native laid a few bars on the second record of the project named “No Explanation,” while Joey rode solo on tracks “The Light” and “Shine.”
“Luminal flow, no traces/I am the blacklight, my whole career of crack right?” King Push spits in his guest spot. “Olympic diving in this money, watch me jack-knife/My rap life ain’t like yours, I’m really going home to five stories and bright walls/Todd James paintings, he says he gots my one-of-ones waiting while y’all thinking James Evans, Jr. … Say less about your jewelers.”
Right before the project was released, Joey tweeted, “This is mumble rap extermination/ This is godly interpolation.” These words would turn out to be lyrics on “The Light,” the first song of the project.
“Hop in the ghost and go Casper/Space coup with a rocket on me, I won’t hesitate to blast ya,” the Pro Era artist continued on “The Shine.” “Fuck cars, though, I’m into buying back my masters/Because it’s just the cash that I’m after.”
With Jazz samples and inspiration throughout the project, The Light Pack is sure to give you all the feels as any other Joey project has — and effortlessly at that.
In a recent interview with Complex, the MC spoke about his upcoming LP, which will double as his debut album at his new label home of Colombia Records. “We’re trying to come soon. It’s almost ready. On Instagram, my fans were pressing me and I told them, ‘Listen, it’s not going to be a longer wait than six months.’ That’s the best I can say. We’re really right there,” he said.
Let The Light Pack hold you over until Joey drops his highly anticipated full-length album. In addition, included is a visual for “The Light,” which sees Joey Bada$$ taking part in “a traditional voodoo ceremony in search of rebirth.”
