The Boy Better Know collective have without a doubt been busy latest from a solo artist perspective. Not only has Skepta teamed up with Chip and Young Adz for their Insomnia album last March, his brother Jme has also been releasing a slew of dope visuals from his latest album Grime MC over the past couple of months. Now, Jammer steps out with a quick-strike project of his own titled Distant Drip, which sees five new tracks from the grime legend. One standout from London star’s latest is “Night Bus,” which sees him in the kind of reflective mode you would expect during a ride on late night transportation:
“Sometimes I smoke when I’m stressed out, gotta bring the best out, don’t care who’s next out/
Man are flexin’ bird chests out… me and my G’s, man are movin’ the wickedest, man don’t care if you know what a flicky is/
Show an emcee what a lyric is…/”
The accompanying video sees only Jammer and an image of a bus stop with the city skyline in the background, making his presence alone the clip’s main source of energy.
During an interview with Red Bull, Jammer spoke on his Lord Of The Mics brand, which started from a clashing competition that’s helped bring grime legends like Wiley and Kano to the forefront and continues to act as a battleground for young emcees today:
“It’s a living thing… When we started, it was in the moment, and then it grew outwards. In hindsight, you can see how the greatness unravelled. But at the time I was just so heavily driven to get a voice for myself and for others around me. That was my main drive, to be heard. You know what I’m saying?”
