Last week, Kali Uchis blessed her fans with a new EP titled To Feel Alive, which she created during her time in quarantine as an appetizer before her next album. She revealed this via social media:
“Recorded all of it alone, in my room, last week bcuz i won’t roll out my real album right now, but wanna give my babies Something”
To Feel Alive sees four new tracks from the DMV star, which production from Vegyn, Austen Jux-Chandler, Chahayed, and more. Outside of the music, the most intriguing thing about the release is the project’s provocative cover, which was created by Oh De Laval and is described by the artist as “the Isolation era of me eating the Por Vida era of me,” referencing her two previous releases.
This week, Kali Uchis pulls from the new EP to deliver a lyric visual for the track “i want war (BUT I NEED PEACE),” which is produced by Sounwave and Rogét Chahayed and speaks to a relationship that has driven Kali to the brink of madness:
“Time too precious and my patience thin, my mind and my soul is the weapon/
And every failure was a lesson, It’s time to stop blocking these blessings/
See, I just wanna grow into my greatness, I wish I had the time that you’ve taken/
‘Cause I got needs, yeah, I got needs, I want war, but I need peace…/”
The lyric visual shows Kali in space, singing next to a payphone that eventually rings by the end of the clip — a perfect match for the vibe the single gives off.
