Over this past weekend, Kid Cudi decided to join in on the IG Live renaissance alongside Jaden Smith, during which he revealed a new track titled “Leader of the Delinquents.” After some delay due to apparent mixing, fans are now able to check out the single in full, which is produced by Arkateqq and Dot Da Genius. Taking a break from his usual melodies, Cudi gives us glimpses of older releases with his hard-hitting bars about mental health, family, and more:
“Hello friends, Cudder again, gotta smack ‘em with some shit before the world ends/
Same old denims, worn for days, I been home makin’ jams and many wonderful waves/
I see in many wondrous shades, peekin’ out the shadows at a new landscape/
I’ve been trapped in my mind, I’ve been tryna escape, fame and loneliness, the recipe for disaster/
I can’t handle this s***, I’ma get plastered, I just wanna go fast, I’m a bastard…/”
“Leader of the Delinquents” is the first official solo release from Kid Cudi since “The Rage,” his contribution to the soundtrack for the 2018 film Rampage. He also teamed up with Kanye West for the well-received KIDS SEE GHOSTS project in the same year. Prior to that, he released his sixth studio LP Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ in 2016, which saw appearances from André 3000, Pharrell Williams, Travis Scott, and Willow Smith. Now, he’s said to be finishing up his forthcoming release Entergalactic, a project that — as he explained last year — will be accompanied by an animated Netflix series:
”Entergalactic will be something you’ve never experienced… I promise it’ll be a fun ride. Lot of good friends involved. Great songs too! The cast is coming together. I know a year from now seems like forever but itll be here before u know it!”
