Last year saw actress-writer-producer extraordinaire Issa Rae expand her skill set into another fact of entertainment, partnering with Atlantic Records to launch her new music imprint Raedio. To kick things off, she recruited Haitian-American artist TeaMarrr, a Boston-to-Los Angeles wunderkind who’d already been buzzing thanks to past releases Thanks for the Chapstick and the million-plus streaming “One Job.”
As a part of the big Raedio reveal, fans also got a new single from TeaMarrr titled “Kinda Love,” which sees her breaking down the type of loyal companionship that she wants in her life. This past weekend, that track received one hell of an upgrade from none other than Inglewood’s own D Smoke, the winner of ‘Rhythm & Flow’s inaugural season who’s been torching everything he’s put a pen to….and this remix is no exception:
“Now here we are, here we are, you wanna build a n***a robot/
But will he talk, will he call, you want him Anthony Davis tall/
Look in the pantry, get the ingredients, bake a loyal n***a, never mischievous/
Take some foil, better cover him well, hater b***hes gon’ be giving you hell/
Not to mention if you want him intelligent/
He gon’ think that petty s*** is irrelevant/
You want him to listen when you’re venting/
And you just be all up in your feelings…/”
D Smoke’s contribution is a welcome inclusion to the colorful track, giving two sides to the coin in regards to finding the right significant other — at the end of the day, nobody’s perfect when it comes to love.
Check out the visual for “Kinda Love (Remix)” below, which is available on all major platforms. In related news, you can also check out the latest from D Smoke, too — he recently delivered his official debut album Black Habits, which you can check out here.
