In the midst of the holiday craziness, SZA made the night even sweeter by quietly dropping off her highly anticipated single “Good Days.” On the track, the songstress sings about letting go of what has weighed her down in the past, and instead wanting to focus on the good days in the present:
Good day in my mind, safe to take a step out. Get some air now, let your edge out. Too soon, I spoke. You be heavy in my mind, can you get the heck out? I need rest now, got me bummed out. You so, you so, you. Baby, baby, babe. I’ve been on my empty mind shit. I try to keep from losin’ the rest of me. I worry that I wasted the best of me on you, baby. You don’t care. Said, not tryna be a nuisance, it’s just urgent. Tryna make sense of loose change. Got me a war in my mind. Gotta let go of weight, can’t keep what’s holding me. Choose to watch while the world break up and fall on me.
To SZA lovers, this new track is actually not so brand new. According to Genius, the song was first teased on July 15, 2020 via SZA’s Instagram story and features Jacob Collier’s vocals. The track also served as the outro in the “Hit Different” music video featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
Although we don’t know much solid information about the next project, SZA spoke about it in a previous interview with Zane Lowe and revealed that, although she’s given us a taste, we still should expect the unexpected. “This body of work is very…um… Everything sounds different, but it all sounds like me,” she says. “So like ‘Hit Different’ doesn’t sound like anything else on the project and neither does ‘Good Days.’”
