It’s been almost two years since Dapz On The Map delivered the well-received body of work Champion Settings, which saw eight cuts and additional appearances from Blay Vision, Scorpz, Bowzer Boss, and Jme. That’s not to say that the Birmingham star has been completely dormant, however — 2020 alone has seen top quality cuts from Dapz like “Waiting,” the heartfelt “Beautiful” with Pheleba, and “Shinobi Part II,” a continuation of the 2016 grime classic “Shinobi Part I.”

This week, Dapz On The Map decided to close out the year with a new freestyle titled “Stay Safe,” which sees his rapping about live during the Coronavirus pandemic — something that’s once again hit the UK hard since it’s initial inception:

“They say 2 metres apart, gotta social distance, they say wear a safety mask to avoid any shop restrictions, gotta show your exemption card if you ain’t a infant, many have been laid off work or made redundant as their no funds to give them/

Half of the countries isolating, working from home, heard of the bounce back scheme, might apply for a bounce back loan, can’t get furlough, no festivals, no shows, no tours…/”

Created by READTHETITLE, the accompanying visual for the EYEBS-produced cuts shows Dapz taking a trip to a corner shop to get what looks like necessities for his child, made all the more life-changing thanks to masks, partition glass, and other clear signs of COVID-19’s presence.

“Stay Safe” was created in conjunction with Town Hall & Symphony Hall Birmingham, who spoke on the collaboration with a promotional clip of their own:

“The Grime MC’s brand-new song scores a video showcasing the digital broadcasts which have been shared from the iconic Birmingham venues during the pandemic.”
