"We can't change the world unless we change ourselves." This track's opening line reminds us that music has always been a representation of the times and, as America inducted its 45th president today, Brooklyn-bred rapper Joey Bada$$ released "Land of The Free." I wouldn't call it a politically-charged single, but moreso a "STAY WOKE" track. Touching on the broken political system, history of slavery—both mentally and physically—and the current state of our country, Bada$$ spits over a funky bass and galactic synths: "And everything I do and say today is worthwhile / Will for sure inspire action in your first child...Sorry America, but I will not be your soldier / Obama just wasn't enough, I just need some more closure." Joey Bada$$'s sophomore album AABA is due this year.
