In today’s (March 8) airing of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Offset took a trip down memory lane. During a four-minute clip shared online, the rapper opened up about how his children and family helped him overcome his lean addiction.
“I was drinking lean a lot. For a minute, my younger brain would tell me, ‘This is what’s giving me the sauce to put on the songs.’ But I started to see it affect my family,” Offset explained. “I got five kids, I’m a grown man, and I gotta take care of the house.”
Notably, Offset shares daughter Kulture and son Wave with Cardi B. The “HOP OUT THE VAN” artist also has three other kids from previous relationships: Jordan, Kody and Kalea.
He continued, “I seen that, and the people that love me the most, like my mama, would tell me, ‘Ay, son, you know you stronger than that. You need to shake that.’ When I shook it, I was able to make hard-fire songs. I felt like I could record in the daytime and get more accomplished. I noticed people would tell me my attitude or how I’m speaking was more clear.”
The former Migos rapper previously addressed his codeine dependency on 2019’s FATHER OF 4. On the track “North Star,” Offset admitted, “Music like the trap, get the product and relapse/ Crown me the king, addiction to lean/ But if I can't sip it then, Mama, I can't even sleep.” Meanwhile, his apology song to Cardi, “Lose Me,” included lines like, “I'm sorry, let me come on home/ She said, ‘Put down the styrofoam.’”
Fast forward to today, Offset is seemingly healthier than he’s ever been in his career. His “Set It Off Tour” begins on Sunday (March 10) with subsequent stops in Detroit, New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta, to mention a few.
