Comic DC Curry knows Ice Cube to be not only a man of his word but also someone who is willing to go to bat to make sure his peers are properly compensated for his film productions.

The multi-hyphenate entertainer faced some backlash a few years ago when his name was dragged over Faizon Love’s admission that he only made $2,500 for his role as Big Worm in Friday. As a result, Cube was accused by a fan of “robbing his own people.” He would hit back at the claim, explaining that he “didn’t rob no f**kin’ body” and that “Faizon worked one day, maybe two. All the actors got paid scale to do the movie. They could’ve simply said ‘No,’ but they didn’t. So, miss me with that s**t,” in a tweet. Faizon would later clarify that he did not reveal his disappointing pay to bash the film’s co-writer and producer.

“Let me say, what I got paid is a moot point, it was the price of admission to a game. I have zero regrets. Actually, I want to take this time to thank Cube, DJ Pooh and Felix Gary Gray for letting me be apart of such an iconic picture,” he captioned a photo of him and the founding N.W.A emcee.

Curry, who appeared in two of the franchise’s installments, said that conversations about low pay are something he can’t relate to in the March 7 episode of the “It’s Up There Podcast.” “You know, a lot of people complaining. I don’t know who they had representing them, but dawg, I got paid,” he began when asked about his compensation. Without revealing how much he made, the veteran jokester said, “When I did Friday After Next, ‘cause I had gotten so much for Next Friday, when I did Friday After Next, I bumped heads with the producers ‘cause Cube at that point had gotten so big, Cube had basically stepped out of negotiations and stuff, so I bumped heads with the producers.”

The unacceptable offer provoked Curry to call the entertainer in hopes of finding a resolution. “I said, ‘Hey man… these motherf**kers crazy.’ I said, ‘We can’t come to grips with the money.’ Ice Cube said to me, ‘DC, what you want?’ And I told him. He said call him back in 15 minutes,” he explained. When he called back, Cube told him the deal was settled and that all the comic had to do was sign the contract. “I said, ‘D**n, I was too cheap!’”

Curry would go on to claim that Kym Whitley, who played his wife Auntie Suga, was replaced by comedienne Sommore after having a similar issue with the producers. Whitley, however, has previously explained that she missed out on the sequel because she was filming Deliver Us From Eva.
