In December 2023, 4batz dropped off the single "act ii: date @ 8" — a track that helped to solidify the artist's position as one of the next to watch for 2024. Produced by Sanni Ireoluwakitan, the emotional R&B affair caught a lot of attention due to a performance of the song for "From The Block," which saw the Texas-based talent rocking his signature balaclava.
After some teasing, fans are now able to check out a remix of "act ii: date @ 8" that features Drake. Matching 4batz's energy, the Toronto star sang about his own toxic love affair.
"A thousand on your f**kin' hair/ 200 on your f**kin' nails, for real/ This s**t feel like a fairy tale/ I'll make them open up Chanel/ I'm a stand-up guy like Dave Chappelle/ I was cursed, you 'bout to break the spell, for real/ Tell that n**ga that you done with him, girl/ Who cares if he gon' take it well..."
In addition to Drake, 4batz quickly earned co-signs from the likes of SZA, Timbaland and Robin Thicke over the past year.
Back in January, the rising star took to Instagram to share a snapshot of a video call with Kanye West. "I was just sleeping on [the] floor, [and] now I’m on [the] phone with Ye," he wrote before referencing one of the Chicago legend's biggest hits. "Y'all n**gas can’t tell me [nothing].”
In an interview with Genius, 4batz spoke about his love for classic R&B. “That’s actually my favorite genre of music. There’s so many people in ’90s R&B that I like [and] that I look up to," he said. "Jodeci, Mint Condition, SWV, Intro, Sade, Anita Baker… Whoever did ’90s R&B, they did it, and it stood out in a crazy way. Everybody [today] is sampling songs and singing over it and saying, ‘Oh yeah, this is bringing ’90s back,’ when in reality, it’s just them sampling the song, so that’s the difference.”
