On Tuesday (Oct. 24), the Austin American-Statesman reported that Lil Wayne is now an investor in the Texas Ranchers, a Major League Pickleball team. He joins the likes of The Kid LAROI, No. 1-ranked men’s golfer Scottie Scheffler, and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons as part of the organization’s ownership. Weezy will also take on the role as the team’s strategic advisor.
“Pickleball is the moment and I’m excited to be part of the Texas Ranchers ownership group,” the New Orleans talent said. “I’ve enjoyed watching and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join this team of owners.”
Ranchers founder and CEO Evan Floersch also shared a statement regarding Wayne’s inclusion. “From the get-go, we set out to build a team that, at its core, was centered in pop culture to support our mission to become one of the most recognized brands in American sports,” he explained. “Having Wayne’s guidance, along with the rest of this incredible ownership group, emphasizes our stance on redefining sports ownership and being a positive force for good in our local pickleball community and beyond.”
In related news, Wayne recently dropped a trailer for the second season of his Apple Music show “Young Money Radio.” The biweekly series will kick off this Friday (Oct. 27) at 12 p.m. PT.
Even with the aforementioned ventures, the “Lollipop” artist continues to make waves on wax. Currently, he and 2 Chainz are prepping for the release of Welcome 2 Collegrove, the sequel to 2016’s ColleGrove. The project is led by the single “Presha,” a Bangladesh-produced effort that closes with a mind-bending verse from Wayne himself. “Pressure busts pipes, the weapon tuck nice, I only bust twice, but I’m so precise, the foreign run nice, I’m whorin’ all night, I don’t handcuff her or read her, her rights,” he raps on the bass-heavy cut. Welcome 2 Collegrove arrives Nov. 17.
