As previously reported by REVOLT, police in the Chicago suburb of Maywood, IL have been searching frantically for former NFL free safety Sergio Brown after his mother was found dead near a creek behind her home on Sunday (Sept. 17). A homicide investigation was opened after the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that 73-year-old Myrtle Brown sustained injuries from a physical assault. In response to the tragedy, Sergio’s brother, Nick Brown, both pleaded with the community to provide information on his sibling’s whereabouts and paid tribute to the late matriarch.
“It’s a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together,” Nick stated. “Mom always told me, ‘Tough times don’t last,’ and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope. Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won’t let you down.”
On Monday (Sept. 18), Sergio surfaced on social media in a video that many have found perplexing. In a short Instagram Story posted on what appears to be his secondary account, the 35-year-old began by repeating the phrase “fake news” to the camera.
“It has to be the FBI that came into my house on Bob Marley’s death day,” he said. Sergio continued by claiming that his mother is retired and he thought that she was on vacation in Sinaloa, Mexico. “If you want to come to me, the Maywood police gotta give me money. FBI had to do it, they got the power to do some s**t like that. What the f**k is going on? That’s fake news. Don’t come f**kin’ with me!” he added. Said video was also deleted and reposted, as the original showed his apparent location in Mexico City.
Sergio has not been named as a suspect in his mother’s killing.
