After remaining relatively dormant on the music front, Ab-Soul makes his anticipated return tonight (April 22) with a brand new single “Hollandaise.” The exciting release marks his first since 2016’s infamous Do What Thou Wilt project. On the new track, fans can enjoy the familiar and sharp Ab-Soul flow they all know and love over a Kal Banx beat:
Get up off my dick, let me talk my shit, let me show ’em how I feel, for real, these n***as ain’t ill, they ain’t got no skill, they ain’t got no will, for real/ I was ten and two on Central, tryna make my dream come true, runnin’ from the law, was tryna let y’all know just what we go through/ I was back to back, get the best of Shaq for a pack of black/ A matter of fact, it was half of half of that, stopped goin’ to church, like what is it all worth?
The aforementioned Do What Thou Wilt spanned 16 tracks and boasted appearances from names like Zacari, Da$H, Kokane, BR3, labelmates ScHoolboy Q and SZA, Rapsody, and the late Mac Miller. The project boasted some of his most well-loved hits like “The Law” and D.R.U.G.S. In terms of features and assists since then, Ab-Soul appeared on the Black Panther The Album Music From and Inspired By compilation, Jhene Aiko’s Chilombo, and assisted Kembe X with “Back At It.”
It seems as though the TDE resident is looking to kick things into gear slowly as he is scheduled to make an appearance at The Smoker’s Club Fest later this month. The headliners are Kid Cudi, A$AP Rocky, and Playboi Carti and Soul will be joining the line up alongside names like Larry June, Joey Badass, Flatbush Zombies, Lupe Fiasco and plenty more.
