Beyoncé, Diana Ross and more are paying tribute to French fashion designer Thierry Mugler, who sadly passed away on Sunday (Jan. 23). He was 73 years old.
Mugler’s passing was confirmed by a post on his brand’s official Instagram account.
“We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23rd 2022. May his soul Rest In Peace,” the post read.
According to his agent, Mugler died of natural causes.
Mugler, who launched his eponymous fashion house in the 1970s, was known for championing diversity in his runway shows. He designed signature looks for the likes of Diana Ross as well as costumes for Beyoncé’s “I Am… World Tour,” for which he also served as artistic director. Mugler also styled Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Normani and Cardi B, whom he dressed for the 2019 Grammys.
Cardi, who was close friends with Mugler, was also his personal guest at the opening of his fashion exhibit in Paris, which she attended last year after giving birth to her son. After the 2019 Grammys, the Bronx-born rapper called Mugler one of her “favorite creative minds in the WORLD” on Instagram.
After news of his passing broke online, Beyoncé shared a message of remembrance for Mugler on her website. “Rest In Peace Thierry Mugler,” she wrote along with a photo of the late fashion icon.
On Twitter, Ross added, “I will miss you Thierry Mugler this was a wonderful time in our lives.”
Last week, the fashion world lost another giant, André Leon Talley. The trailblazing fashion journalist and former Vogue editor-at-large passed away on Tuesday (Jan. 18) at a hospital in White Plains, New York after battling an unknown illness. He was 73 years old.
