Cordae is so secure in his talent, he questions the musical palettes of people who aren’t fans of his music. The rapper, who is promoting his latest project From A Birds Eye View, recently chopped it up with Big Boy and discussed a variety of topics, including his discography.
“Obviously, I’m not where Kanye [West] was when he made 808s and Heartbreak, like, success-wise,” he said. “But I got so much confidence in the music that I make that if you don’t like my music, you just got poor taste.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the “Sinister” emcee opened up about his weight loss journey, which was triggered by his feature in a magazine. “I had to do a GQ cover,” Cordae explained. “I’m speaking my truth. I had to do a GQ cover and was like, ‘Man, if I don’t get in shape to do a GQ cover, whatever in life is gonna motivate you to get in shape?’”
According to the Raleigh native, he started his healthy lifestyle back in November 2020 and lost most of the weight in the first eight months. He is now 35 pounds lighter but heavier in the confidence that he has in himself. “I feel more confident,” he told Big Boy. “Like I said, I’m a little shallow. When you look good, you feel good; when you feel good, you do good; and when you do good, they pay good. That’s why it’s important to feel good.”
On Friday, Jan. 14, Cordae dropped his sophomore effort, From A Birds Eye View, which features the likes of Gunna, Lil Wayne, Nas, Lil Durk, H.E.R. and more. The project, he told Billboard, is more “memory-driven” than his debut album, Lost Boy.
“I actually have to live life and go through some shit,” he said. “Sometimes I have to go through tragedy, and I just transmute that through songs. Every song [on this album] has an exact memory and experience into creating it.”
