A man who lost five relatives in the deadly Bronx fire is praising Cardi B for her generous donation toward their funeral expenses. After learning that the “Ring” emcee was covering the funeral costs for all lives lost in the blaze, Haji Dukuray told TMZ that she is “an angel” and expressed gratitude for her financial support.
“You are an angel. I can’t thank you enough. My family can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done,” he said. “I don’t know you, I’m sure you’ve never heard of my family. For you to step up and do what you did for us at this time, all I could do is pray to Allah for you. May Allah…give you all your wishes and grant you everything in this world and hereafter that you’re asking for.”
Dukuray’s niece Hajah Dukereh, her husband and their children were among the 17 people killed in the fire that engulfed a Bronx apartment on Jan. 9. During his conversation, Dukuray said he was thankful that he no longer had to worry about the financial aspect of burying his family members. He said that he learned of Cardi’s donation from Mayor Eric Adam’s team and shared his intentions to pray for her well-being following the gesture.
“For me not to worry about the cost at all, was just a huge, huge help and relief for my family,” Dukuray said. “Knowing now that she (Cardi) is the one responsible, I’m just gonna pray for her and thank her for being that angel that really stepped up to help my family.”
As previously reported by REVOLT, Cardi B teamed up with The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to cover the funeral costs and burial expenses for those who died in the Bronx apartment fire. After announcing the news, she took to her Instagram Story to bring attention to efforts launched by Fat Joe, DreamDoll, Power 105.1 and Hot 97 to help surviving tenants.
