While he’s largely remained behind some of the best music of the past decade, it’s also been that amount of time since The WRLDFMS Tony Williams has released the classic body of work King or the Fool, which saw collaborations with Kanye West, John Legend, Raheem DeVaughn, and Stokely over 22 soulful cuts. We have received loose cuts from the multi-talent, including “Stuck In The Middle” with CyHi The Prynce and (just last year) “Everybody Knows” with Wale — he’s also contributed his powerful voice and amazing pen game for projects like Daniel Caesar’s Pilgrim’s Paradise, Pusha T‘s DAYTONA, Nas‘ NASIR, Teyana Taylor‘s K.T.S.E., Elijah Blake’s Shadows & Diamonds, and West’s DONDA.
This week, Williams decided to bless us with a new single titled “Anymore,” which features an assist from Chandler Moore and sees additional production alongside The Institute, Haskel Jackson, and Femi Ojetunde. The track is a beautiful mix of R&B, jazz, and gospel, with subject matter about the kind of obstacles we’re all facing and the honest emotions we all experience in the midst of it:
“Have we gone too far to turn around? ‘Round, ’round, ’round, ’round, can we pause and go slow? Slow-ooh, Where did we break now and throw it away? Why didn’t we try? How do we feel when we thought we were healеd? How does it hurt, oh God, oh, ohh, where it’s sorе, can’t explain why tears are falling to the floor, or why the rain don’t make a sound when it pours, I pray the pain don’t make you frown anymore…”
Directed by Firsteye Media, “Anymore” also sees an equally powerful black-and-white visual, along with a deeper explanation of the song from Williams himself:
“How often do we discount God’s signs and wonders as common earthly occurrences. God wants us to be sensitive to his voice. ‘ANYMORE’ takes us to the brink of acknowledging those signs by making the move to ‘get it right.'”
