Back in November, Eric Bellinger joined Hip Hop Caucus for their journey with the Respect My Vote! 2022 midterm campaign. He contributes his talents to the cause this week by sharing his new single “Speak Up” as a way to help give a “raw and uncompromising voice to social justice movements.” Released on MLK Jr. Day, the “Speak Up” lyrics encourage people to use their voice at polls and mobilize for voting rights:
We got a problem, how do we solve ’em? By making a change/ Make a difference to be about it, more than what we say, yeah, don’t ever give up, right to stand up/ Right to do it your way, sing out (Sing out), I’ll make them hear me (Oh)/
Make sure you say it louder ’cause your voice matters (Matters)/ Don’t be afraid to show it, go ahead and stand up (Stand up)/ Don’t hold back, you’re not alone/ Take this chance before it’s gone
Hip Hop Caucus’ midterm campaign launched in Nov. 2021 with the Respect My Vote! “All Politics is Local” Virtual Summit. They have led the biggest and longest-running non-partisan Hip Hop voter mobilization campaign in history.
Bellinger made sure to share a few words about this empowering collaboration. “I am very excited about the release of my new single in partnership with the Hip Hop Caucus’ ‘Respect My Vote!’ campaign,” said Eric Bellinger via press release. “The song, like the work of the Hip Hop Caucus, represents what we should be doing now to overcome the hardships and obstacles our community deals with every day. As an artist, using music to share a message is powerful, and I am so thankful to do my part to ensure folks in our community nationwide head to the polls to vote.”
