Today (Jan. 14), the exciting announcement has been made that Joyce Wrice is the theme song vocalist for “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” the long-awaited revival of “The Proud Family.” The new revamped version of the shot is launching Feb. 23, 2022 on Disney+. A sneak peak of the music included in the show has been revealed today in a new music featurette, and in the clip, Joyce Wrice can be heard singing the iconic original lyrics:
You and me will always be tight (Be tight), family every day and night (Day and night)/ Even when you start acting like a fool (Fool), you know I’m loving every single thing you do (Fo)
Bruce W. Smith, creator and executive producer, weighed in on why Joyce was the perfect choice for the job. “What made Joyce Wrice great, when we saw her videos, she had this great spunk, this attitude. She looked like she could’ve been a character on the show,” he says.
“And we said, ‘Oh my God, she’s Penny Proud,” continues Ralph Farquhar, executive producer. “If we imagined Penny Proud as a pop star, that’s who she would be. It’s exciting, it’s hopeful, it captures the spirit of the proud family an at the same time it retains the feeling of the original.”
Last year, Joyce Wrice shared her debut project Overgrown. The project is executive-produced by 2021 “Song of the Year”’ GRAMMY Award winner and 2021 Golden Globe Award-nominated producer D’Mile. It includes previously released tracks “So So Sick” and “Falling in Love,” the latter of which was just featured on Lucky Daye’s Table For Two EP. The 14-track LP includes appearances by Lucky Daye, Masego, Freddie Gibbs, UMI, Kaytranada, Westside Gunn, and Devin Morrison who help her bring in the special moment.
